Advantages and disadvantages of Tourism

It is difficult to express the advantages and disadvantages of tourism by a post. My last post about tourism where I gave some advantages of tourism,

Now I want to describe more about advantages and disadvantages of tourism.

Advantages of tourism

•   Foreign currency especially US dollar brought to the destination host country by tourist; these help the host country government to pay foreign debt and exchange for export and import.

• Tourism gives job thousands of people of host country in different ways such as tour guides or hotel housekeeping, taxi driving, transportation, hotels, restaurants, car rental agencies, tour companies, service stations, souvenir shops, sports equipment rentals etc.

• The tourism industry also gives opportunities for small and medium business enterprises. Local communities are benefited through contribution by tourism to the improvement of the social infrastructure like schools, libraries, health care institutions, internet cafes, and so on, that can be important in rural communities and generates more taxes for host country government.

• Tourism provides financial support for the conservation of ecosystems and natural resource management and also contributes to beautify the tourist areas.

• Tourism helps to preservation of traditional customs, handicrafts and culture. Conversation between hosts and guests create a better cultural understanding and can also help raise global awareness about human right and contribute eradicate poverty.

• Tourism helps conservation of wildlife and natural resources such as rain forests, mangrove forests, and hilly forests and generates funding for maintaining animal also reduces problems such as over-fishing and deforestation in developing nations.

• Who makes a tour can easily broad his/her mind to see beautiful landscapes, interesting wildlife, large beaches , waterfalls , mountains, forests, green diversity and plants, and be educated about ecosystems of the world.
  

Above I describe about some important advantages of tourism for both tourists and host country. According to the laws of sir Newton, “Every action has its same and opposite reactions”.

Tourism sectors have some disadvantages also which are the following.

Disadvantages of Tourism 

• Tourism has a negative effect on the host country culture. They have become too greedy and have lost their identities and also diminished their colorful tradition.

• Tourism can increase crime rate in the host country such as selling drugs, prostitution,Robbery, gangs which can be increase burglaries, rapes, home invasions, murder etc.

• Tourism has influenced host country traditional dresses. They can be influenced by tourist dress and it gives a long effect to these countries.

• Tourism can give a bad effect to host country language , tourist come from different country of the world speak by different languages and host country people want to learn these languages to protect their business, which causes harm to the host country’s own language.

• For the tourism reasons a large number of people shift from different country to the tourist host country and for the over population has caused host country become overcrowded.

• Profits that income from tourism goes to foreign companies, such as tour operators and hotel chains where local poor communities are deprived from it.

• Foreign companies bring skilled people from their own country to do good jobs on the other hand host country people get low-skilled, poorly-paid work.

• House rents could be burden for local community when foreign companies and investors buy property for hotels and holiday homes.

• Wildlife habitats could pollute and disrupted if there are too many tourist in any popular tourist area or natural resources.

• Roads or tracks which made for transportation into tourism forest area can erode grass cover, damaging plant and animals species and disturbing local habitats. It also can reduce vegetation of wild life which leads to increased soil erosion.

• Safari houses and fuels which made by cutting down trees can made a long destruction of forest area and made deforestation.   

• Tourist hotels are sometimes responsible for water pollution they can use surface water for tourists purpose as a result wildlife suffer for water. They also polluted water by dumping waste into rivers. Tourist hotels and motels also pollute environment through traffic emissions, littering, increased sewage production and noise.
